Featuring a 2,446 cc inline-four diesel configuration, single turbocharger and mechanical fuel-injection pump, the 2L-T offers a traditional mechanical diesel design that is appreciated for its simplicity, serviceability and suitability for older Toyota 4x4s.
The engine uses a 92 mm bore and 92 mm stroke, giving it a square 2.4-litre configuration. Depending on the exact generation, turbocharger and market specification, factory output varies. Common 2L-T specifications are in the region of 84–94 hp, with approximately 188–216 Nm of torque.
The mechanical injection system makes this engine particularly attractive for applications where a relatively simple diesel fuel system is preferred. Unlike the electronically controlled 2L-TE, the conventional 2L-T uses a mechanical injection pump.
